yummy no chew food

I just ate by far the most delicious meal that I've had since getting my bands off:  Cheesy refried beans with guacamole on top! YUM!

I'd love suggestions on other yummy stuff!  I havent tried anything crazy like blending up a hamburger yet, but who knows how long I'll survive before doing that.  Anyone have favorite foods from before they could chew??

I've been striving for some variety in the food since eating blended soups gets so boring after awhile.  The refried beans were so easy.  I mashed up an avocado with a couple tablespoons of olive oil, lime juice, minced up cilantro, salt and pepper then let that sit and get happy in the fridge while I heated a can of traditional refried beans on the stove with salsa to soften them up a bit.  Once the beans were hot, plop the guac on top and there you go!  deliciousness on your plate.

Some other foods I've been eating:
breakfast foods

  • scrambled eggs
  • oatmeal blended with milk to make it smaller
  • juice
  • COFFEE MILKSHAKE!  This is so delicious- cooled down coffee, coffee ice cubes, vanilla ice cream and whole milk.  omg so good!

lunch/dinner

  • soups
  • overcooked mac 'n' cheese in fun shapes-  I ate this last night and struggled with it a bit but still managed to eat half the box (kind of a small serving for an adult).  I thought the shapes were good because they weren't very hard to mash on the top of my mouth with my tongue.
other

  • fruit smoothies made with greek yogurt (lots of protein)
  • applesauce (I got the kids' size gogo squeez packets)  for a quick snack
  • ensure :(  even though its not that good for you it is just such an easy go-to food that I drink them when I need something quick
  • fruit/vegetable juice from my juicer.  (Trying to sneak in some more nutrients)
  • started taking multivitamin
on another random note:  I haven't sneezed or blown my nose since surgery.  Every time I feel like I need to sneeze I quick grab my saline nose spray and that makes it go away

here are some new pictures:
swelling is down, but definitely still have chubby cheeks
side profile, see all the swelling in my cheeks/ under my mandible?
top teeth are over the bottom!

  1. Hey Laura, if you ever have a sweet tooth, here's a recipe for a good old chocolate pudding. Except it's made from tofu, so there's lots of good protein.
1 1/2 cups (12 ounces) firm silken tofu, crumbled
1/4 to 1/2 cup pure maple syrup
1/2 cup cocoa or carob powder
    1 tsp vanilla extract
    Pinch of salt, optional

Place everything in a food processor and blend until smooth and creamy. Chill.

I know this isn't exactly a meal, but I hope it helps! Btw your profile and bite are looking perfect!

  2. mashed cauliflower with a little sourcream and a smidge of horseradish and black pepper. It's refreshingly different on the tastebuds.

mashed yams with a little butter, nutmeg, and cinnamon

baked zuchini, squash, and carrots. Just a bit of olive oil and sea salt then bake until VERY soft. I don't like mushy veggies, but I sure did a few weeks ago.

blended homemade chili was the BEST

blended broccoli spinach and cheese looked gross but tasted great, you can add a bit of soft cooked brown rice before blending too.

overcooked whole wheat pasta with alfredo sauce, blended with milk

    blended rice pudding

hard boiled eggs with mayo and celery salt or onion powder for taste, blended or diced fine

Just some of the things I tried and didn't hate. Hope it's helpful

  3. Your pictures look beautiful!! And yay for top teeth over the bottom, people with normal bites don't realize how good they have it, but now we have joined them and there ability to bite with front teeth happiness.

I don't know if you got my other message but my email address is wassjl28@uwgb.edu if you ever have time to shed some light on the realities of dental school. I have to start figuring out where I am going to apply and taking the DAT and I am kinda freaking out a lot. :)

  4. You look amazing Laura! You must be so happy with your bite!! It looks great!

Here are a few things I've been eating. Not that much variety, but maybe you will get some ideas...

Soft Seafood: baked tilapia, crab-cakes (no filler) and crab dip, tuna fish
Carbs: Rice (fried, pilaf, regular), spaghetti chopped up small, cream of wheat with butter/brown sugar, Bob Evans mashed potatoes (cream cheese and chive flavor are delicious!), lo-mein chopped up
Soups: French onion, broccoli and cheese, veggie chili blended, egg drop, split pea
Melted cheese- haha, I put cheddar cubes in the microwave for 15 seconds and ate it. I was really desperate that day but it was so delicious. Marshmallow fluff is yummy too....haha.
