video update, post-op day 6

Video update.  I think I said it all, good luck understanding me!
I just had my first post-op appointment today.  Surgeons took a peek around and said everything was healing fine.  Interestingly enough, they said even though the swelling is more on the right on the outside of my face, the inside of my mouth is swollen more on the left.

I'm just going to try straining everything from now on because I know I'm not getting enough calories.  Its hard with a liquid diet to get enough nutrition!

They also said that I'll be de-banded next week!  can't wait for that day.

Thank you everyone again for the tips about eating and everything else, they've really been helpful and encouraging.

  2. Laura I am so happy you're doing so well!
You're so adorable talking with the bands in!
This video is awesome :) So helpful, I'm going to have to look for one of those pillows.
Moms are awesome, mines flying in from across the world for my surgery, I don't think I could go through with it without her here.
You look great!! You must be so excited for the swelling to go down.

  3. Laura, you are the cutest!! Even with all of your swelling, the changes in your bite look awesome! How does it feel to have perfectly aligned teeth? Also, where did you get the circular pillow that keeps your head in place when you sleep? I think I want to get one of those.

Oh, and say hi to your mom! What a sweetheart!

  4. God bless you for dealing with those bands. I got really lucky that I didn't need them. I think I would have gone nutzo. I have that same blue pillow, I bought it for surgery and I still use to today to keep my head from rolling. It hurts if I sleep on the sides of my face. I also have a bed buddy heat wrap that I love. It really relaxes my muscle spasms and joint cramps.
You look great! Keep up with your food to keep your energy up. If you need any ideas, let me know. My blender and I are tight these days! :)

  5. Oh my god, you look and sound great! I wouldn't have believed that was day 6! That's so great you're doing well:) After watching that you really make it look like this whole process won't be so bad, haha.

  6. I still think this is an excellent opportunity to practice ventriloquism and become adept at it!!! I understood almost everything you said! A month ago I got an idea when I learned you were going to have your mouth "wired shut" and thought I would try a "nothing but liquids" diet. I don't take in anything other than liquids all day long, but I do eat whatever your grandma cooks for dinner. Guess what?! I have lost 15 pounds in one month! Hey I'm happy. I know you don't need to lose any weight, that's for sure, but it is a good thing for me. I think I will keep it up as long as it is working. Keep on the fast track of healing - we are so happy you don't have to keep the bands in more than a couple of weeks - that is just awesome. We love you here in Houston.

  7. And I thought a bone graft was bad! Hope you are getting a good discount,
I think it is cheaper if you let you fellow dental students help out.
Wishing you a speedy (pain free)recovery.
